What I Learned (8/28 to 9-4)

It is Sunday and that means it is time for a new segment I am introducing to my blog called, “What I learned.” This segment plans to highlight and review the week in Philly sports and whatever other sports I am watching which this week includes the Track and Field World Championships and the US Open. So without further ado, here is what I learned from the week of 8/28 to 9/4.

The Phillies distanced themselves from the Braves and Brewers by winning 5 games in a row.

Vince Young is not a viable back-up to Mike Vick.

For that matter neither is Mike Kafta.

If Vick gets injured the Eagles will not win the Superbowl.

Desean Jackson is the most underpaid athlete in all of professional sports.

The U.S. Relay Team is incapable of passing the baton.

Usain Bolt is not invincible but he is still the favorite.

The state of Oregon produces most of the U.S. track team’s athletes.

At 36, Bernard Legat is still good enough to win a silver medal.

The USTA is leading a resurgence for United States tennis.

Jack Sock is the future Andy Roddick.

Andy Roddick is not done in the world of tennis yet.

Donald Young will make it to the quarterfinals.

John Isner has a realistic shot to make it to the U.S. Open Semis.

Baseball umpires are incapable of making correct calls this season.

The Eagles will not run away with the NFC East.

The Union cannot win a game on the road.

The Union can also not score more than one goal a game.

U.S. men excel in the Decathlon.

Long jumpers from Florida are really good.

The 200, 400 double is really hard.

Tom McCarthy thinks that jerseys are considered blouses.

America once again is the winningest nation at a world championships or Olympics.

Ian Kennedy is a legitimate Cy Young contender.

Mardy Fish will make it to the semifinals.

This will be a very interesting season in college football.

Cliff Lee pitches perfectly in every other month.

David Herndon gives up a lot of base runners.

The Tigers wish Justin Verlander would start everyday so that they would make the playoffs easily.

Even umpires do not understand the rules of instant replay.

Chase Utley is playing injured, even if he says he isn’t.

Steve Addazio will coach Temple to a bowl game.

The Eagles cut players and no one cared or noticed.

John Isner’s serve is currently the best in tennis.

Serena Williams can win the U.S. Open without having dropped a set.

Philadelphia athletes always give back to the community.

It is possible to use 18 dozen baseballs in one game.

The Phillies are not done making roster moves.

September call ups came and the Phillies didn’t flinch.

The NFL pregame kick-off show is going to be awesome.

Upsets happen a lot at the U.S. Open.

The U.S. Open is the only tournament of the Grand Slams that employs a 5th set tiebreak.

It is possible to protest a baseball game.

Phillies players like to take advantage of MLB’s newly instated paternity leave.

Jamie Moyer will pitch again.

Excuse my bias, but the Phillies will win the NL East.

The Phillies will win 100 games.

NY loves their sports.

The U.S. Open crowd likes to cheer for the underdog.

Nobody cares about the NBA lockout.
